Screen time: promoting the magazine online
From concept to copy, I designed and implemented several marketing materials to promote Cultured Magazine’s print issue on both Cultured’s website and social channels.
Specifically, as Instagram stories continue to become a fast stream of instant content, I’ve worked at selecting engaging imagery from the issue paired with clever copy—keeping Cultured’s followers engaged.
Around the start of the pandemic in 2020, I approached the editors with an idea to promote the issue using only materials I could find in my apartment. The concept was simple: a standard still-life featuring a vaguely symbolic green apple, a wrinkled ivory sheet as the backdrop, the most recent issue, and two glasses of wine. Presented as a “behind-the-scenes” outtake I was able to allow our readers a peek behind the curtain—a humbling exercise in accidents, (who hasn’t spilled wine before?!).
15 ARCHITECTS ON BEING BLACK IN ARCHITECTURE
I was approached by the Architecture Editor to design a collage promoting the online feature, 15 ARCHITECTS ON BEING BLACK IN ARCHITECTURE. I worked directly with the editor to select relevant architectural renderings and portraits. I treated the geometric shapes as an organic avenue to introduce color. The graph paper connects each Architect and the portraits stacked together to create a sense of community.
